The Universal controllers have two modes of operation depending on the value measured: "direct" and "reverse." The output is engaged in "direct" operation if the value measured exceeds the set point plus a difference, aiming to keep the value below a specific level (typically used in refrigeration systems). When the temperature falls below the specified point plus a differential, the output is triggered in "reverse" mode (typically used in heating systems).
